EORI Number and U.K. Trading – For U.K. Based Customers Only

Due to customs changes enforced during BREXIT, if you are a U.K. resident you may need to register for an Economic Operators Registration and Identification number (EORI).

Who needs an EORI number?

An EORI number is required if you are a resident in the U.K. or your business is in the U.K. AND if you are VAT registered. An EORI number will also be required for those who are NOT VAT registered if items you are purchasing will need to be shipped on a pallet.  An EORI number is required if you are importing and exporting goods to any other countries including the EU.

When do I not require an EORI number?

If you are a U.K. resident and purchasing goods for personal use and the items you are purchasing are small enough to go via standard courier, not on a pallet and you are NOT VAT registered, then an EORI number is not required. Moreover, if your business is based in Northern Ireland and you are purchasing goods from the Republic of Ireland or another EU country, then an EORI number is not required.

What happens if you do not supply or register for an EORI number?

Here at Ned Murphy Tractors Ltd. if you are residing in the U.K. (except Northern Ireland) and are VAT registered and/or receiving goods on a pallet, we cannot dispatch your order without your EORI number included on file. Failure to include an EORI number will result in your order being held in customs until an EORI number is supplied. The courier carrying the goods may also return the order back to us which will then lead to further delays and incur additional carriage fees to re-send the order to you.

Where can I register for an EORI number?

Registering for an EORI is a quick and straightforward process. You will require your business registration details and VAT number. Upon making the application, the relevant U.K. authority usually issues you your EORI number within a matter of hours, so there are no significant delays for you.

You can apply for an EORI number through the U.K. government website.
