ABOUT NED MURPHY TRACTORS
Ned Murphy Tractors Ltd is an independent distributor of both new and used Massey Ferguson Parts. Our warehouse based in Marshalstown, just outside Enniscorthy Co. Wexford, is fully stocked with both OEM and Economic new parts and a huge selection of second hand parts. These include everything from the 300 series all the way up to the latest models.
Founded by Ned Murphy, this family business is built on over 50 years’ experience and knowledge of working with Massey Ferguson Tractors. Having started an apprenticeship with a local Massey Ferguson Dealership in his early teens, Ned worked for many years as a qualified mechanic. He decided to take the leap and set up his own business which focused on Massey Ferguson Tractor repairs and sales in 1999.
As the business grew and demand increased, Ned was joined by sons Keith, Ian and Gary who bring their own skills to the table. Having grown up amongst these iconic tractors, it came as no surprise that Ned’s sons took an active role in the business. Their invaluable knowledge of Massey Ferguson Tractors and recognising areas of growth and opportunity has brought the business to new heights of success.
FORMATION OF MASSEY SALVAGE
2013 saw the formation of Massey Salvage.
When visiting a supplier in The Netherlands many years before, Ned was inspired to set up a salvage company in Ireland having seen the process of this business type in other European regions.  Moreover, issues with sourcing quality second-hand Massey Ferguson parts within Ireland, facilitated the necessity to start sourcing tractors to dismantle for parts. As they say, if you can’t get the job done, then do it yourself!
So, it was in 2013 when Keith left his job as a Quantity Surveyor and Gary as a mechanic, set up Massey Salvage as a subdivision of Ned Murphy Tractors Ltd and got to work dismantling Masseys and advertising and building a warehouse to store the second-hand parts. As the years went on, it was obvious to all involved that new parts were an essential part of the daily requirements for customers. It took a bit of persuading, but in stepped Ian in 2018, leaving a comfortable job in the Army as a mechanic to start building on new parts stock to fill the requirements of customers and eventually taking over the running of the workshop. He has never looked back.

THE DISMANTLING PROCESS
Once all the plans were in place, we hit the ground running and started to dismantle      parts from tractors all over Ireland and the U.K. The whole process is undertaken quickly and professionally in keeping with all health and safety measures issued by the local authority. Our team at Ned Murphy Tractors works like a well-oiled machine (no pun intended) often dismantling a tractor within two working days.
First the tractor is off loaded and drained of fluids before the dismantling process is started. Each tractor part is carefully noted with its part number and then stored in our warehouse until required or purchased by a customer.
In terms of sourcing tractors for dismantling, many are acquired through online auctions and trusted suppliers we have worked with for years.
The salvage side of the business gives us more opportunity to work with and build relationships with our suppliers while also allowing us to be able to fix damaged tractors and put them back on the road using parts salvaged and parts sourced from suppliers.

BENEFITS OF BUYING SECOND- HAND PARTS
At Ned Murphy Tractors we are always happy to dispel any stigma associated with purchasing second-hand parts. Parts that we salvage, and sell are often as good as new. Our team of experienced mechanics ensure each part is at optimum efficiency and quality. Here are some key benefits of purchasing second-hand parts from us.
- There are big savings to be made on purchasing second-hand parts compared to new parts, possibly 50% in the difference on certain parts.
- In terms of sustainability, second-hand parts are often called ‘green parts’ as they are being reused and are seen as more environmentally friendly. Moreover, using ‘green parts’ results in less waste and landfill usage. Also, in terms of the environment, purchasing second-hand parts removes the energy and raw materials needed to produce new parts.
- Second-hand parts are often quicker to source than ordering new parts directly from the manufacturer. Our warehouse is stocked with parts and if the part you require is not in stock, we will do our best to source it for you.
- We offer a three-month warranty on all our second-hand parts, which gives customers that extra bit of reassurance.
SALE OF NEW GENUINE MASSEY FERGUSON PARTS
While the sale of second-hand Massey Ferguson parts is a major revenue stream for us, we also sell new Genuine OEM parts to customers. During our years specialising in Massey Ferguson Tractors, we have been able to build solid relationships with Massey Ferguson suppliers such as DANA, BOSCH, Perkins, Danfoss and more.

INNOVATION AND RELIABILITY – A HISTORY OF MASSEY FERGUSON TRACTORS
When we think of farm machinery you can guarantee that a Massey Ferguson tractor will always come to mind. Their iconic three triangled brand is easily identifiable and synonymous with quality and endurance.
The Massey Ferguson Brand has a longstanding history in the agricultural machinery industry dating back over 175 years.
The formation of Massey Fergson came about with the amalgamation of two engineering companies, founded by Daniel Massey and Alanson Harris respectively in Canada in the 19th century. Daniel Massey first founded Massey Manufacturing Company in Ontario in in 1847. The company focused on creating simple farm implements. Â Around the same time, Alanson Harris set up A. Harris, Don & Co. which also produced agricultural equipment. In 1891, the companies merged to set up Massey-Harris Limited, which positioned them as one of the largest agricultural machinery manufacturers in the then, British Empire. Their first manufactured tractor entered the market in 1917 with their Bull Tractor.
Their aim was to provide farmers with the best value equipment that was both reliable and hardworking. This goal along with keeping the farmer’s needs at the forefront of innovation has led to the development of a quality brand that is known worldwide.
The company continued its growth and expansion up to and during World War Two.
The ’Ferguson’ element to Massey Ferguson Tractors comes into play in the 1950s and has a great Irish connection in the form of Harry Ferguson, who was a native of Co. Down in Northern Ireland. It’s no wonder these tractors are so popular on our island.
Harry Ferguson is famous the world over for the invention of the three-point hitch system that is still utilised in the production of modern tractors. The three-point hitch improved the link between the tractor and agricultural instruments which led to better efficiency and tractor operational safety. It’s also very versatile, being compatible with a variety of instruments and allowing for a great number of agricultural tasks. The merging of Ferguson’s innovative designs and Massey-Harris’ manufacturing skills and distribution infrastructure led to a period of great growth and innovation further catapulting Massey-Ferguson as a global leader in agricultural machinery.
The 1990s marked a period of financial difficulty for the company, but they rallied by restructuring and putting more of a focus on their core products. This period also saw the introduction of the AGCO Corporation which acquired the company and provided financial stability and resources to continue with the company’s reputation for innovation.
Today, most of the Massey Ferguson Tractor manufacturing takes place at the AGCO Corporation plant in Beauvais, France. It is estimated that they produce around 20,000 tractors a year, many of which are then exported to over 70 countries worldwide. Since the plant opened in the 1960s, they have manufactured over 1,000,000 Massey Ferguson Tractors.
THE NATION’S FAVORITE FARMHAND – THE ENDURING POPULARITY OF MASSEY FERGUSON TRACTORS IN IRELAND
Within Ireland, you’ll often find a Massey Ferguson tractor trundling along a country road or village. With a history of being an agricultural country going back centuries it’s no surprise that Massey Ferguson Tractors have a longstanding history within Irish culture. They first entered the Irish market in the 1940s and 50s with the Ferguson TE-20. The Massey Ferguson range appealed to Irish farmers because of its cost effectiveness, reliability, easier maintenance and the Irish invented three-point hitch system.
Also, the introduction of these tractors helped to shift Irish farming from the labour-intensive horse drawn operations to a more productive mechanical solution.
Culturally speaking, many Irish farming families have a deep connection to Massey Ferguson Tractors, opting to use the range throughout their farming careers, trading in and upgrading to newer models whenever required. Farmer generational loyalty to these tractors is a testament to their enduring reliability.
Moreover, there’s a great support infrastructure within Ireland for Massey Ferguson Tractors in the form of dealerships dotted across the country along with other service suppliers, including us, at Ned Murphy Tractors Ltd who can provide new and second-hand tractor parts and whole tractors for sale. If you’re based outside of Ireland, you’ll be happy to know we also ship parts worldwide.
Massey Ferguson Tractors are a popular choice for Irish farmers both new and second-hand who rely on their reputation for endurance and dependability.
